Mickey attended Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, FL in 2007 and 2008. Her major was Painting and Illustration. She withdrew to help out in a family business in Palm Harbor, FL (the Lake Tarpon Resort and Dockside Sports Bar & Grille). Mickey has been involved in the operations of a 98 room hotel and 8,000 sq. ft. restaurant on the canal leading to Lake Tarpon which has left her little time/energy to do much painting. Now, at the age of 61, things are beginning to wind down for her at the hotel and she is getting back to her art.
As a young girl, Mickey dabbled with watercolor a little bit over the years. She took an after-school art class in grade school. In the early 90's Mickey took a couple of watercolor workshop classes at a community center. Then around 2001 after being diagnosed with Pulmonary Hypertention (a result of a hole in her heart that had been corrected by open-heart surgery in 1978 and 1980) she gave a lot of thought to what she wanted to do when she 'grew up'. (Mickey was 50 at the time). Mickey decided she wanted to become an artist. She began to take workshops from professional artists like Patricia Chute, Pat Weaver, Sue Archer, Harry Thompson, George James and Taylor Ikin.
In 2007 Mickey applied to Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, FL and was accepted. She went for 3 semesters. She also took several Figure drawing classes at Community Colleges in St. Louis, MO. Watercolor is Mickey's preferred medium. She has done a little acryllic and oil. Mickey also does quite a lot of photography.
Mickey recently bought a house in Largo, FL (moved from a condo) that has a very nice studio space. She would love to find a benefactor, mentor, etc., who could share her love of art and even play a little golf, go boating, take day trips to art festivals around the state, attend workshops with her, paint together.......
